La Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios (OCU) hizo publico los resultados de un estudio sobre la atención en salud mental que se presta en España a las personas con ansiedad y depresión.
El estudio, que lleva por título Más psicoterapia y menos pastillas, y que aparece recogido en el número 100 de la revista OCU-Salud, pretende lanzar la voz de alarma sobre la elevada prescripción de fármacos (antidepresivos y ansiolíticos) en nuestro país, a pesar de que “la opción más exitosa y la que debe aplicarse en primer lugar es la psicoterapia basada en determinadas técnicas eminentemente cognitivo-conductuales”, y para ello solicita más accesibilidad al tratamiento psicológico, más recursos destinados a este fin y una mayor concienciación social.
Recogen estos puntos y determinan la importancia de:

Concienciar a los pacientes sobre el uso responsable del sistema sanitario, haciéndoles ver que cualquier dificultad vital no tiene por qué solucionarse farmacológicamente.

Incidir en la prevención de los trastornos mentales, promocionando la salud, entendida en un amplio sentido.

Promover entre los médicos una administración responsable de los fármacos, “ajena a las presiones de los pacientes, la industria o la falta de tiempo”. La atención de los problemas de ansiedad y depresión debe ajustarse a las recomendaciones basadas en la evidencia, que establecen que el tratamiento psicológico (y en concreto, la terapia cognitivo-conductual) es más eficaz y efectivo para los problemas de ansiedad y depresión.
